FOR THIS PAINTING I GOT THE IDEA TO USE FABRICS
THAT I BROUGHT BACK FROM AFRICA.
THIS IS ANOTHER NEW ADVENTURE FOR ME.
I HAD A GREAT TIME WORKING THE PASTEL PIGMENTS
 INTO THE FIBER OF THE CLOTH.
TO MY SURPRISE THE AFFECT WAS PLEASING AND DRAMATIC.
 I FRAYED THE EDGES OF CLOTH TO GIVE PAINTING A RUSTIC LOOK.
 I WILL FLOAT THIS DELICATE PIECE IN A
EBONY AFRICAN WOOD FRAME.

 PRIVATE COLLECTION 

Today I experimented with a different type of paper. 

I typically use a sanded or soft rag paper, but

I found a tablet of Canson Pastel Paper and decided to give it a try.

 I really like the smooth surface and the fact that it allows me

 to produce  really thin and straight lines. 

This is a challenge with the sanded surfaces.

 With the Canson Pastel Paper I was able to apply multiple thin layers of soft pastels. 

I wasn't able to add as many layers as with the sanded surfaces,

but enough to create the desired depth and  color intensity.  

Next I will try a landscape and a floral

painting on this surface and see how things turn out!

Texas & Neighbors 1st Place Award

1st Place Award: Watercolor painting "Dog Tired" and Chocolate Rose floral arrangement interpretation of painting.

I am pleased to announce that I received the 1st place award in the Watercolor category at the Texas & Neighbors Regional Art Exhibit!

The 2013 exhibit revealed 79 works of art, juried by Jill Pankey from more than 500 submissions, created by artists living in the states of Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana in the 28th Texas Regional Art Exhibition presented

 by the Irving Art Association and the Irving Arts Center.

I also experienced my personal 15minutes of fame, when I was interviewed by

Irving, Texas's local television station!

 with a large piece of original sculptured art in the new patio home division 

with dedication hosted by Classical radio station, WRR 101.1 fm.

So Much To Be Thankful for in 2012

I'm Thankful for my opportunity to travel to East Africa and return home safely! 

It was truly a trip of a lifetime! I was able to experience the adventures of 

wildlife safari, learn about the masai people, camping in the serengeti, hot air balloon ride over East Africa with a champagne breakfast afterwards and meeting

a new group of friends from Australia, London, New Zealand, Zimbabwe and California!

After returning home I was blessed to receive best in Show recognition from the Dutch 

Art Gallery and Artist of Texas, Honorable Mention from The Irving Art Association

Wildlife Exhibit, Pastel Society Of The Southwest- Still Life and Floral Award.

I was also selected into Louisiana Art & Artists' Guild-43rd Annual Exhibit, and

The City Of Frisco Texas- Public Art Program - Art In The Atrium.

More exciting news to come in December!!!

This is just a glimpse of a few of my favorite moments and the wonderful things I was able to

photograph and be a part of while in East Africa!

A special Thank You to Steven Powell who was our photography mentor and instructor

while on safari. With his guidance I felt proficient using my Canon EOS Rebel XSi Camera and safari lens

(100-400 telephoto lens). I was able to bring home over 4,000 images and numerous 

video recordings of the Masai people and East Africa wildlife and more.
